Terrigal

Terrigal is a coastal suburb located in the New South Wales Central Coast region, on the Pacific Ocean. Located just an hour's drive North of Sydney, the township's extended beach and lagoons are a favourite with holidaymakers.

The Aboriginal owners of the region are believed to have included the Awabakal tribe which various reports describe as wearing clothing and belts made from possum. Adult males carried a variety of weapons and hunting tools which included spears, throwing sticks, rock axes and bucklers which used for hunting down heavy game such as kangaroos. Females however are believed to have supplied the majority of food which included fish, shellfish, fruit, tubers, insect larvae, serpents, lizards and smaller mammals. Terrigal was settled by Europeans in 1826. The meaning of the title "Terrigal" is unknown but could have originated from the native Aboriginal word "Tarragul", interpreted as 'home to small fowl'.

Today, Terrigal has a captivating appeal with elegant upscale charm combined with natural unspoilt beauty. The main Esplanade is home to varoius fashion boutiques and cafes and the pleasing village atmosphere is enhanced by the magical Norfolk pines positioned along The Esplanade, bestowing a quality and beauty to the beach area while providing a visual divide between land and sea. A footpath below the pines guides visitors to the most outstanding natural characteristic of Terrigal, is the promontory to the East known as 'The Skillion' that offers fantastic panoramas across the region. The Skillion constitutes a portion of the expanse of solid ground titled "The Haven", which also boasts a popular boat ramp, a diving club and a couple of choice eateries attributable to the stringent development limitations along the region.

Terrigal is among the most fashionable residential, vacation and retirement villages on the Central Coast. Every holiday season tourists descend upon the region for angling, swimming, surfboarding, yachting, skiing and the breathtaking scenery. Located nearby are also big shopping malls and state highway connected to Sydney and Newcastle.
